Summary:
He (the "I" person) is in the neighbourhood where he used to ive. He is often in Joe Bells bar. He likes the apartment where he has lived and there was a women that both Joe and he loved-her name was Holly. He goes to Joe's bar and Mr. I.Y. Yunioshi, an old friend and neighbour, is also there. They talk a lot and they are wondering where Holly is. Mr. Yunioshi has made a world tour.

He told about two years ago-
Holly was often awake in the night and sometimes she visited men or men visited her. He admired Holly and he observed her from outside through her window. Slowly observing changed into visiting. When he would visit her there would be a man she hated, a drunk. But Holly liked him because he looked like her brother. She also called him by her brother's name: Fred. One night they were in his house. They talked about their lives and about the books and story's he had written. Sometimes he was a bit embarrassed and then there would be long silences. He liked kids because they have no troubles and such beautiful clothes. She told him about Sally (a friend of her) and she suggested that he should make make a story about her. He had to think about it. She laid beside him and they held hands but when he asked her why she was crying she stood up and she said she hates snoops. He began to think about her and he concluded she was a bit strange.

She wrote a letter to him that she wouldn't bother him again in the night, but of course he wrote back "please do". She asked him to come at 6 o'clock, but when he came there was another man in her room. They talked about Holly and the man said she's crazy and she will blow your mind when you try to make her better. The man told him she is an outsider. Holly had told to the man to let in everybody in who knocks on the door. Many strange men showed up. He thought they were old friends and went away.

Later that night they were alone with the man who said she was crazy. She told him she is stressed and is sometimes afraid. He suggests that she should have a drink or smoke some soft drugs to relax. She had been in Mexico with a friend and now she want to have a normal life with a man. She says Rusty is a good friend of hers. Another woman came in. She's very ugly and the man offers her a drink. Her name is Mag and "Fred" brings her to a bus later that evening. The next day he hears her talking. She didn't see him and she said that he is very stupid.

He went to Holly and showed her a published story, but there are some problems with that. They decided to take a promenade in the park and they talk about the past because Holly is interested in it. On the return they stole a mask. Normally he wouldn't do that but she persuaded him. But when he had did it he liked it. Mag and Jose (a friend of her) were in Holly's house. Holly had stolen a cage for Mag but she disliked it because it is for an animal and that is pitiful. Mag, Jose, Holly and Rusty went on holiday but when they came back there was a quarrel between Holly and Rusty over love.

"Fred" was followed by a man. The man introduced himself as Holly's husband. Holly's real name is Lulamae Barnes and she had run away from home. She and her brother Fred (real Fred) came and stayed with him. His first wife had died and than he married Holly. They went to Holly and he said there was someone to see her. At first she didn't recognize him but than she remembered him and they kissed.

Rusty married Mag. There was a big party but Holly wouldn't come because Rusty was her lover first.

Holly had decided to move. Holly and "Fred" went horse riding in the park, talked about Holly's problems and they became friends forever. The police arrested them. They are under suspicion for a lot of reasons, including running drugs and being part of a criminal organisation, among other things. They didn't know what's wrong with them. But after in a minute they were free again.

She went to Bill's bar and asked "Fred" to carry her stuff when she moves. Bill had hired a limousine to bring her to the airport. He had also her cat in a bag but she threw it out the car. Fred is angry about that and when he founds him he takes care of him. She said she would write him when she is arrived.

Explanation of the title:
The title is Breakfast at Tiffany's because the main character Holly goes to a club called Tiffany's when she doesn't feel good. She goes to Tifanny's because she thinks nothing can happen to her there.

Genre:
The genre is love because Holly had so many men and 'Fred' is in love with Holly.

Theme:
A girl (Holly) has troubles in her life because she had a abnormal childhood.

Setting:
The story takes place in the early years of the war (around 1940). In the beginning and in the end of the story it takes place a few years later because the rest of the book is a flashback. It takes place in New York, in and around a brownstone apartment.

Who tells the story?
The story is told by the writer himself: I figure

Characters
Į Holly Golightly: she is the main character. She's on her own since she was 14 years old. Now she is about 25. Some people say she's nuts. She had a difficult childhood.
Į The "I"figure/"Fred": The story is told by him. He lives in the same apartment buiding as Holly. In the beginning Holly and he don't get along with each other very well, but later they become good friends. Accually he is in love with Holly. When Holly first comes to the "I"figure he reminds her of her brother so she calls him Fred.
Į Joe Bell: He is the barkeeper of the bar Holly and Fred often go to. He is also in love with Holly
Į Fred: he is Holly's brother. He is mentally handicapped.

Personal bookreport

1. I didn't know what to expect judging from the title. From the picture of the girl on the cover I expected it to be about a Hollywood-girl. This expectation was true, because Holly also wanted to be an actress.

2. I think I like this passage because there is a bit suspense and it looks like a detective and I like that. There is not very much suspense but this is the most there is in this book.

3. I think the key passage is when Holly sees her husband again. She remembers then what is real love again. I also think it was a smart thing from her to move. I don't think Holly was very happy here. When "Fred" and Holly go horse riding is also a bit of a key passage because they become good friends by than. I can't describe one passage because the problem is that Holly is crazy because of her childhood. This problem isn't solved.

4. I dislike most of the conversations in the book, they are to long (sometimes five pages) and they are dull. It is always about love, quarrels and problems people have. You can always predict what's coming. I like Holly's character because she is a bit crazy and you can not predict what she is going to do, and also because she brings fun in the story. Like making noise in the night and then everybody is awake.

5. The moment that the "I" person meets Holly's husband is the best thing I can remember. It is because that man told an impressive story about Holly: She had married him when she was fourteen years old. He had met her when she was stealing milk and turkey eggs with her brother. Their mother and father had died. He had offered them a place in his house. There were four other children from his first wife.

I can also remember the part that Holly moved very well. In that part Holly moves to Rio.

6. I think the "I" person reminded me of a  friend I can't name because he is in our class. But they have similar things for example he learn new things with his friend and the are uncertain they do things because his friends also do. Like smoking, drinking and stealing.

7. When Holly and "Fred" went stealing. Holly wanted to steal something and persuades "Fred" to go with her. It  me of a part in a tv series I saw. It was in 'Heartbreak High'. In that series a boy wanted a girl to come along to steal something. It's the only event I can think of that reminded me of something in my life.

8. The story is about :
-A girl (Holly) who has troubles in her life because she had a abnormal childhood. The writer would make clear that education and childhood is absolutely necessary for the rest of your life.
-It's difficult to become friends with a person from an other social class. That's also the problem between "Fred" and Holly in the begin of their friendship. They have different rules in their lives.
-I think the writer want you to prepare you for life  around the age of 25. That it is not a party, despite what some people think.

9. The problem is that  Holly has trouble. She doesn't have her life straight. Mentally, she isn't very strong. She's a little crazy. She tries to solve it by spending time with many different men.

10. I don't think the problem is solved. At the end of the story she is still crazy.

11. I would handle the problem by going to a psychiatrist to talk about what happened to me when I was a child and try to solve the problems I had. And I wanted to have contact with my parents again.

12. I didn't learn much of the story.
